Business Process ReengineeringImplementation of SAP Software in an Italian Oil Company Prof. Claudio Vignali PhD1 and Claudia Rasicci2 ABSTRACT The aim of this paper is to investigate the potential to apply Business Process Reengineering in situations when the company is facing difficult times trying to obtain and/or maintain its competitiveness in the market. The case of an Italian oil & gas company, has been analysed, focussing the study from the planning phase to the post-implementation phase; the entire complexity of business process reengineering, has been shown within an organisation, in order to underline the major risks of such projects, from keys to success and learning points from other companies that already possess this kind of experience. This paper is based on the analysis of qualitative data and Secondary sources have also been used. This paper shows that BPR was recognised as the right approach by the company management selected in order to improve the competitiveness of the company. It has underlined that BPR is not all about technology, but rather about the human factor upon which the success of each such project depends. Furthermore, it has emphasised the importance of a strong leadership and good change management programme which such projects require in order to eventually generating expected results. To protect the integrity of the company we true fictionalised the company name as Ita.Gas.
