Culminating Group Essay

In class, we have studied various elements in literature in such as characterization, symbolism and theme that help make a short stories and film interesting and enjoyable to read or watch. We have also practiced how to organize and develop a thoughtful and focused essay. In order to demonstrate and apply your knowledge and understanding of the film “How to Train Your Dragon”, you are asked to complete the following three tasks using the graphic organizers (templates) provided. Each individual task will be evaluated and will also help you to construct an accurate and well-organized paper.
As a group you will come up with a thesis that examines the elements of literature. Be sure to determine the three arguments or reasons that will demonstrate or prove your thesis. Each group member will develop one of the arguments. As a whole you will complete the introduction and conclusion.
Essay Topic:
Discuss whether or not “How to Train Your Dragon” is a good choice of media for young viewers.
Here is a sample thesis statement
“How to Train Your Dragon” is an excellent movie because it has interesting and well developed characters that show the importance of accepting differences. (Each person would examine a different character in the film)
Hiccup’s and his father have an interesting relationship. In time they learn how to love and appreciate each other unconditionally.
“How To Train Your Dragon” shows that relationships are built on trust and acceptance.
(You could prove this statement by examining various character relationships or conflicts in the film)
