There will be 6 vocabulary quizzes and may be other announced and unannounced quizzes.
Homework will be given a  or a —. Homework with a — receives no credit but may be redone for
credit. Late homework will be corrected but will receive no credit, except in case of an excused
absence. Lab assignments entail watching assigned broadcasts of German TV, and then writing a long
paragraph-length summary. Participation involves 1) your willingness to speak voluntarily in class, 2)
the ability to answer correctly when called on, 3) preparedness, and 4) attendance. Also part of the
Homework grade is the Heft, which includes:
 all essays
 a list of mistakes from essays and the corrections
 a list of mistakes from homework and the corrections
 a list of vocabulary missed on the quizzes. When a list reaches 15 words a make-up quiz can be
taken and a lesser grade replaced.
 sentences with vocabulary words. These sentences should be written by the class session before
the quiz.

There will be a cumulative essay grade that reflects progress made in writing.
There will be 4 tests covering the grammar text. Tests are cumulative, building on the material
covered in the term. There is no final.
No food in class.
