It is equivalent to a third-year Spanish Literature university survey course, covering from the medieval period to the 20th Century. During the two years, students read 38 unabridged literary works written by Spanish and Latin American authors on the required reading list. The course is taught entirely in Spanish and concentrates in reading, critical thinking and literary analysis. Students also consider and understand the cultural contexts in which the authentic works in prose and poetry were written. *You may ask Sra. “J” about how you can do the course in ONE year… WHO SHOULD TAKE THIS COURSE? Students who want to become proficient is reading complex text in Spanish, students who want to major in Spanish at the university level, students who want to learn more about Spanish culture through their love of reading! literary work, analysis of poems, etc.) PREREQUISITES 20% Exams (quizzes, multiple-choice tests on vocabulary, reading comprehension) Student should complete at least regular Spanish 3, or complete Spanish Speakers’ classes; have very good Spanish reading and writing skills and the ability to think critically. HOMEWORK EXPECTATIONS Students should expect at least 45 or more minutes of reading per night (including weekends) and note taking. Reading assignments and homework is given also during Winter and Spring Breaks! CLASS INSTRUCTION AND IN-CLASS WORK Students are expected to come to class with outside reading completed and to participate in class discussions. GRADING 20% Written Evaluation (including, “short response” and essays) 20% Oral Evaluation (daily participation in class) 20% Homework (handouts, literary notes, questions pertaining to 20% Final Exam (released AP exams; AP essay; final project) SUMMER ASSIGNMENTS Summer assignments will be given the third week of May and students will be asked to complete all reading assignments and turn in all written work on the second day of the new school year. Assignments turned in after this date will be subject to a 20% penailty, which will effect the student’s fall semester grade. As the annual AP exam approaches, once-a-week study sessions will begin in April after school.
