In the story of White Fang, we continuously see how White Fang’s surroundings affect him – his personality, actions, thoughts, etc. Jack
London writes that “His heredity was a life-stuff that may be likened to clay.
It possessed many possibilities, was capable of being molded into many different forms. Environment served to model the clay, to give it a particular form.”
Describe how White Fang’s environment, the setting of the story, changes throughout the novel. What effect does this environment (and all that is in it) have on White Fang? Discuss the significance of each change and how it molded White Fang. Use quotes and examples from the book to explain yourself. Then, take it one step further – how does your environment affect you? (Think about it – how would you be different if you had been raised by different parents, in a different place, treated differently than you are now?)
