Communications Technology Final Examination Please read the following instructions carefully. On completion of the required tasks, you will have demonstrated and completed the course. This exam can be considered “open book” in that you have full access to all the program resources for help. However, you will not be able to obtain direct help from others or myself during class time. You are welcome to work on the exam outside of class. Examination work will be organized into folders, saved on the server and some parts emailed on the final day of classes. This exam will require all the remainder of classes. Remember, you are marked on quality not speed. I will view finishing your exam early as low quality work. There is always something to improve. Manage your time wisely and if you finish two tasks start a third for bonus marks. This examination is worth twenty percent (20%) of the course. Instructions: (choose two of the four tasks below) 1) 2) 3) 4) Sketchup Fireworks Word/PowerPoint Movie Maker/Mixcraft You are to choose ANY TWO of the tasks above and meet the criteria of each component as described below. Read each assignment carefully and decide which two you are most confident with in demonstrating your CMT skills. This is an examination of your abilities. Plagiarism, sharing of files or open communication in the lab will be dealt with severely (possible zero) Overall Appearance and Graphics From the two tasks you will also be evaluated on development of graphics and the overall aesthetic quality of the tasks. Artistic ability and creativity is as important as content and meeting required specifications. Task list below CHOOSE TWO OF FOUR TASKS BELOW 1) SketchUp (50%) Draw the two objects described by the orthographic information provided. Research commercial building floor plans. Choose one plan and recreate the floor plan (with walls pulled up) and an elevation view. The building you choose must be a minimum of 10,000 square feet. Do not use any pre-existing components Erase all unnecessary lines and add textures when complete. Include the original information in the finished folder Save your work in a folder called; sketchup exam. 2) Movie Maker TV Commercials (50%) Create two (2) separate two minute long videos. One video will display the history of communication and the second video will discuss the positive and negative use of cell phones. Create the sound tracks for these two videos using Mixcraft. The use of text, text effects, transitions, fades and effects are required. Most images should be edited using fireworks, paint or photo editor. Save your work in a folder called; movie exam. 3) Wireless communication Essay and PowerPoint (50%) Research and create an essay (minimum 850 words) that outlines key technological developments in wireless communication. Discuss past, present and future examples of how this technology effects society. Use your own words. If you paste a quote, you must cite the author. Use examples and indicate why you feel they are important. Include some technical information on how the wireless technology works. Include discussion on security and safety issues. Create a ten slide PowerPoint with edited images of the most important wireless technological discoveries in the last twenty years. Cite your resources.
