Name _____________________________________________ ARFL-Robinson Concurrent Enrollment Essay STDs Why is it that among well-educated reasonably affluent Americans, there is a high rate of STDs? What is the role of education in preventing STDs? What are the barriers to STD prevention? There’s still a high risk of STDs because some people aren’t as informed about as the teens. Us teens learn it in school and some of us have to hear it from our parents. The fact that it’s a high rate is ridiculous. I think it’s high for teens because they tend to rebel more, especially against their parents and their own values. Another reason could be because a lot of Americans or people in general loose their values and the respect for themselves. For example if a girl gets her heart broken, she’ll tend to try to put herself out more to feel “loved”. But others see her as being easy, especially the guys. The same goes for the guy; if he gets his heart broken he may tend to act like a player just to feel “loved” by someone again. Education is helping to prevent STDs simply by teaching the student about the consequences and risks of these certain STDs. A lot of what I was taught I had no clue about. It was very helpful in so many different and positive ways. By students learning the different and most common STDs is very helpful to them. It gives those students real knowledge about what could happen to them and to their partner or even multiple partners. I think the barriers are simply life long consequences that could never go away. Especially if you gave it to your partner and people know. I mean it’s not a good thing to have a STD and having everyone I mean everyone knows. It must suck and probably be embarrassing for you. I mean yes there’s cures to some STDs, but what about the ones that you live with forever? Maybe someday you want to get married, how would you feel telling your new fiancé or husband that you have a non-curable STD?
