Sexually Transmitted Diseases

having sex, you won’t get one. There are over 25 types of
STDs. Each one is either a viral or a bacterial STD.
A Viral STD causes an infection that cannot be cured.
Medicines can slow down viruses but not eliminate them.
A Bacterial STD causes an infection that can be cured with
antibiotics.
Medical: STDs
STDs are spread by sexual activity.

EMOTIONAL PROBLEMS THAT CAN
RESULT FROM HAVING SEX
TOO EARLY.

and often stressful.
Sometimes emotional.
Full of important decisions.

be if sexual activity were added
to pre/teens’ lives!)

good friends and good
decisions.

Financial:
IF YOU WAIT TO HAVE SEX, YOU WILL NOT GET
PREGNANT OR GET SOMEONE ELSE PREGNANT!
If pregnancy occurs, you’ll have . . .
parental responsibilities (you’re not a kid
anymore).
fewer educational opportunities.

learning, developing talents & skills
participating in safe, fun activities
preparing for a great future NOT raising babies
Legal:
Why Should I Wait?
Legal
Why do we have laws?
To protect us. Most laws are made
because many are being harmed. For
example, the seat belt law.
Legal
Having sex as a pre/teen can result in
serious medical and emotional
problems. That’s why all states have
laws to protect you.
Legal
Is this statement True or False?
As long as two people want to have sex,
it doesn’t matter how old they are.
Legal
The correct answer is:
It is against the law for anyone under the age of 18 to
have sex. If someone over 18 (an adult) is having sex
with someone under 18 (a child), the adult could be
prosecuted with a felony crime.
Legal
If an adult is pressuring you to have sex, tell them to STOP
and immediately TELL a trusted adult.
If someone has talked you into sex or forced sex on you, TELL
a trusted adult immediately.
If you are the one pressuring someone to have sex—STOP!
This behavior is against the LAW
IMPORTANT: Trust your feelings and instincts. If something
doesn’t seem right, it probably isn’t. It’s your body and
you always have the right to say NO, even to an adult.
