Write an essay on the following:
Discuss the role of the evolving nature and geography of the
European Union in the Twentieth Century and assess how such
change contributed to what Pinder (1998) defines as the New
Europes which emerged in the 1990s.
Readings:
Students should begin with the following reading as a point of
entry to begin the essay and from which to select other readings
of their own choice.
Pinder, D., (1998) “New Europe or New Europes? East-West
development dynamics in the twentieth century”. In Pinder, D.,
(ed.) (1998) The New Europe: Economy, Society and
Environment. Chicester, John Wiley and Sons.

Length:
Essays should not exceed 2,000 words
Submission: Essays to be submitted by Monday December 3rd, 2007 (5.00 p
p.m.). They should be handed in to the Secretary in the
Humanities Office Ms. Gillian Clarke – D237. You will be
required to sign a class list when you hand in your essay.
Late essays will be accepted up to Thursday, December 6 th, (5.00 p.m.). A
deduction of 2% from the awarded mark will be made for each day the essay
is overdue. Essays will not be accepted after Thursday, December 6 th.
