FACULTY OF VISUAL CULTURE
ESSAY PROCEDURES: STUDENTS
1. Your tutor will give you a copy of the Essay Guidelines and a
cover sheet when giving you your essay topic. The guidelines will
help explain the correct way to reference your work. Please note
that there are Research and Writing Skills classes available to help
with your written work to which everyone is most welcome.
Madeleine O’Rourke, the organiser, can be contacted at 636-4314.
2. The cover sheet must be completed correctly, with the following:
a) your name
b) your faculty/department & year
c) your subject tutor
You must sign the declaration stating that it is your own work. DO
NOT SIGN FOR YOUR FRIENDS.
This sheet must be stapled to the front of the essay. No plastic
folders, please!
3. Essays must be handed in on the date specified. They should be
placed in the appropriate box outside the Faculty office by 4.00
p.m. on the deadline date. Essays handed in after that time will be
deemed late and incur penalties.
There are NO EXCEPTIONS, other than a medical certificate.
Broken computers, corrupted discs, faulty printers, traffic jams,
missed buses are NOT acceptable excuses.
4. Essays not submitted by the correct date must be in by 4.00 p.m.
Friday 23 April 2010 to go to the Summer Exam Board. They will
be marked to either pass or fail (maximum 40%). Exchange
students will be marked as normal.
5. If your essay is late and you have a doctor’s certificate, hand both
to the Faculty Administrator as soon after the due date as possible.
6. Plagiarism is taken most seriously here at NCAD. If your work is
found to have been plagiarised, you will have to resubmit it, pay a
financial penalty and have a record placed in your file. Further
occurrences may result in suspension.
