Principal’s Report
WOW! What a great day on Friday for our wheelathon! Thank
you so much for all of your efforts seeking sponsorship.
Please bring any outstanding money into the office by Friday 7 th
June. We will be awarding the prizes for the wheelathon at the
whole school assembly on Thursday 20 th June. We are
approaching the $3300 mark – let’s try and beat last year’s
effort!! (Only a few more hundred dollars to go!!) Thanks to
Mrs Robins and the SRC for coordinating the event.
We had a big response to the uniform survey that was sent out
last week. At present, we have 93.3% of our community
(children, parents, staff) supportive of the change in jumper. It
has been evident from feedback received from the survey that
our community would like to review the entire uniform, not just
jumpers and shirts. As such, the jumper that was suggested in
the survey will be added to our sports uniform. It can be
worn Monday-Friday until the review of the uniform has been
conducted, which will be later this year. The jumpers will be
available in the coming days; there will be an option of a zip at
the front as well. We will let you know when they can be
purchased.
If you would like to be part of a uniform committee that will be
reviewing our current uniform, a note was sent home today.
Please return if you would like to be part of the committee. It
will be made up of parents, students and staff. For more
information, please contact me at school.
There are very few of the old grey jumpers left. If you would
like to purchase one, they are selling for a reduced price of $20.
Sizes 6, 8 and 12 are available but stock is extremely limited.
Children are still able to wear their old grey jumpers – there is
no need to purchase one of the new jumpers if your child’s
existing jumper still fits.
Have an awesome week everyone!

5-a-Side Soccer Gala Day
Last Thursday, some
Burkies went with Miss
Allen to play soccer for
Burke Ward in a 5-aSide Gala Day. It was
at the O’Neil soccer
grounds. We met a
Brazilian soccer player
called Cristiano Dos
Santos who currently
plays for Adelaide
United and he was
running the gala day.
We had three teams:
girls, boys and mixed
and we versed different schools from Broken Hill. There were no scores kept
and the year 6 team leaders refereed the games and helped us with our skills
and reminded us of the rules. In between matches, we had competitions to see
who the best juggler was and we had a penalty shootout. Ky Gilmour from 4M
won the boys shootout and he celebrated like a pro soccer player! Thanks to the
people who came out and supported us and to Jett, Charlie and Jacob from 6M
for being our team leaders. We all had a great day! Some action shots will be
put onto the school website so be sure to check them out!

4M News
4M have started a tremendous term adjusting to a new teacher. We have been
very busy this term so far, but we never forget to have fun.
We have really enjoyed learning our assembly item routine and are very excited
to perform it. Lots of effort has gone into learning the dance and getting all the
movements perfect.
We have been busy writing recounts of our best day EVER during the start of
this term. Our published work is on display and it looks fantastic!
We have also begun to learn a little bit about our country Canada for
‘Carnivale’. It gets really cold, so they can play ice-hockey and go skiing. There
is also a creature called Sasquatch who has been rumored to live there.
Miss McLerie has been very impressed with the enormous effort 4M has
achieved so far and can’t wait for the rest of the term!
KR
E kasan! (Good afternoon) KR have settled in to Kindergarten routines easily
this term. All children have been working extremely hard to improve their
reading and writing skills each morning during reading groups. It has been
wonderful having so many parent helpers popping into the classroom to
volunteer their help. O se! (That’s thank you in Yoruba language) It has been
very rewarding to see how the students have improved both in their reading and
also their writing.
We have welcomed Mr Fusi, a prac student from
Menindee Central to our classroom this term. He has
been teaching and helping in many ways and the
children have enjoyed having him in the classroom.
Mr Fusi will remain with us for a few more weeks and
he will be teaching us lots of new things.
KR have been studying all about Nigeria as part of our
country study and have enjoyed learning about
Yoruba, a language spoken there. The children have
learnt about where Nigeria is and looked at the people
who live there. Recently, we have discussed the animals which roam around the
country, such as giraffes and lions rather than in zoos like in Australia. We
can’t wait to see what has been happening in the other classes when we tour at
the end of the term.
KR has been participating in Drama lessons with a visiting teacher from the
Sydney Theatre Company. Anna has engaged the students by allowing them to
act and pretend in a variety of ways. All students had a great time pretending to
get out of a spaceship and standing in mud and it was fantastic to see the
expressions on their faces. KR cannot wait to see Anna again next week for
more fun and adventures!
What a wonderful Wheel –a –thon on Friday!!! All the children enjoyed
bringing their wheels to
school and had a fantastic
time riding or pushing them
around in the playground. It
was excellent to see so many
children return sponsorship
forms and raise money for the
school.
O se! Adobo! (That’s
goodbye in Yoruba)
