(The IB Parent Organization will be sponsoring a book sale of the following
‘assigned readings’ on June 1, & 2 (2:15-3:15 p.m.), and June 3 & 4 (11:15-12:15
p.m.) in the IB Office. Please support the IBPO by purchasing your books there.

Visual Arts: Candidates are to purchase an IB regulation sketchbook (hard cover, 8 ½ X
11). See below link for assistance. You may also purchase them at Art and Frame in
Sarasota (near Sarasota High School). Students are also encouraged to purchase Rives
BFK cold press paper and a small set of acrylic or watercolor paints. Art and Frame will
give students a discount; also see below Blick Art Supply link.

Assignments:
1) Examine the links below on portraits. Create a self - portrait using a strong light
source. Use the Rives paper and acrylic or watercolors. You can take a photo of
yourself to work with instead of using a mirror.

2) Create a montage (a combination of images) that represents your cultural
heritage. See below links for ideas. Use large paper and acrylic and/or watercolor
paints.

3) In your sketchbook create 2 pages of cultural information about your heritage.
Include images that show your culture. What makes you unique?
4) Go on a field trip to a gallery downtown or to the Ringling Museum or Salvador
Dali museum. Sketch from images that you like in your sketchbook. Fill two pages
from your visit with notes, sketches, and museum /gallery information (flyer).

Visual Arts: Standard Level students are to look at and select an investigative module
from the teaching website and complete 5 pages from the exploratory section (in
sketchbook) and should complete one concentration (on canvas).
Higher Level students are to design their own investigative module. Use the examples on
the website for establishing the framework. Complete the exploratory section in
sketchbook (5 pages). Students at Higher Level should also complete one concentration
(on canvas).
