Stamps, Stencils and Materials Exploration. In this unit you will experiment with a variety of materials. To prepare and plan for your Finished piece (final copy) you will complete the list of sketchbook pages below. Include the requirements but use your own creative judgement and experiment. Sketchbook Page #1 - cover the paper with text from a book. Cut it up or glue it down whole. - using the small piece of Styrofoam supplied to you design a stencil. It can be anything you want, abstract or realistic. Show Ms. Bay a small sketch before to get it approved and get your Styrofoam. - you can use acrylic paint to transfer the stencil to the paper. Consider the placement carefully. Use the stencil on this page multiple times or just once. Up to you. Sketchbook Page #2 - using Watercolors, paint the sketchbook page. - use some of the many bizarre materials supplied as stamps on your page. Use acrylic paint. Make a pattern or just scatter them however you’d like. Sketchbook Page #3 - using acrylic paint, paint 1/2 the sketchbook page. - using whatever textural materials you can find in the classroom, fill the white spaces with texture rubbings (crayons or pencil crayons work best) - on the acrylic paint on the other ½ of the page use the stencil created for sketchbook page #1 or a mix of stamps used for page #2 Sketchbook Page #4 - find a large picture from a magazine or book. It cannot be a square or rectangle. Cut it out and glue it on the paper. - color the background with crayon. Make sure to press hard. DO NOT USE BLACK OR WHITE. - use one of the scraping tools in the blue basket to scrap away some of the ink to create images, patterns or random designs. Sketchbook Page #5 - Draw 5 squares on your paper. Fill 3 with one color using colored pencils. Paint the background. - Use your fingerprints to add interest to this page (with acrylic paint). As many as you’d like and where ever you would like. - Use oil pastels to complete this page in your own way.
