* On three pages in your sketchbook look through the examples from
‘Chapman’s American Drawing Book’ (link below – toward bottom of
webpage). Create pages that show practice with hands, eyes, and feet. Write
some ‘visual thinking’ notes describing what your struggles are and how you
are trying to overcome some challenges. What type of media are you using
– how does that add to the ‘aesthetic quality’ of the drawing.

development of ‘Ideation’?

On three pages of your sketchbook, look at these portraits for
inspiration. Try to look in a mirror, use a flashlight, have a friend
pose, use a photo you took of a friend, etc. and create three
different portraits using charcoal, pencil and/or oil pastels.

chalk pastel drawings of figures. Ask a friend to pose, or take a photo of a
friend in a reclining position (not nude photos – they can wear bathing suits
or clothes). Create two chalk or oil pastel drawings from your model.

Reflection Activities: 5 pages (integrated)
What is so interesting about the artists, artwork, or art style? This section
we will compare and contrast images you find engaging. You will also use
this section to do some self-reflection on your own art creations.
* On a two page spread compare Leonardo da Vinci’s self-portrait with
Vincent van Gogh’s self portrait. Print out the images, glue into sketchbook
and describe how they are similar and different. Add some history notes
about both artists. Cite your pages with the links below.
Da Vinci

Van Gogh
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vincent_van_Gogh
* On one page in your sketchbook draw your hand holding an object.
Describe how you used the media (charcoal, oil pastels, colored pencils) and
the technique you are trying to become proficient at (cross hatching,
hatching, shading, etc).
* On two pages in your sketchbook, examine Jan van Eyck’s ‘Arnolfini
Wedding Portrait’. See link below. Print out a color picture of the early
