Professors Creed and Dorado BUS 445: Study questions to use to prepare for chapter 2 The primary goal: understanding the five-forces model Be sure you have read closely pp. 42-60 and studied at all of the figures on those pages closely. 1. Complete a five-forces analysis of the Russian ice-cream industry (see Ice- Fili). 2. Define driving forces and identify the driving forces in the Russian ice-cream industry. (If it is helpful, look at question 3 on page 77. While it applies to the US ice-cream industry, which of these factors might also be a driving force in the Russian industry?) a. What is the link between driving forces and strategy? Be prepared to illustrate with the Ice-Fili case? 3. Define key success factors (KSF) and identify the KSFs in the Russian ice-cream industry. 4. First look at Key Point 5 on p. 76 (table 2.2) and if necessary, review the related parts of the chapter. Then do the following: a. Review figure 1.1 (p. 8 in chapter 1) and systematically identify as many components of Nestle’s strategy as possible. b. Review figure 2.4 (p. 47) the left box labeled “typical weapons.” Based on your assessment in (a) above and your understanding of rivalry, what do you expect Nestle to do? What should Ice-Fili be thinking of doing in response?
