Drug Research Project Mrs. Martinez – Health Education Drug Project Requirements: 1.) Oral presentation using POWER POINT. You need to study your material BEFORE you present it to the class. PREPARATION AND PRACTICE are THE KEYS TO SUCCESS! You are not to read your information from your power point but teach / talk to the class on your topic. Do not forget to include an introduction AND conclusion as part of your presentation. {They will not be apart of your slides} Power Point Slides: Slide #1 - Title page – Name of drug {technical and street names}, your name, period, & date you are presenting, & a picture of your drug or something that relates to your drug. Slide #5 - Drug Category {Narcotic, Depressant, Stimulant, Hallucinogen) AND DEFINE the category. Some drugs may fit into more than one category! Slide #6- Where does this drug come from {plant, lab, country} describe/explain Slide #7- Medical uses for your drug past & present. Slide #8- Is it addictive? Define what is means to be addictive. Is a tolerance built up? Define tolerance Slide #9- How is your drug used? {smoked, injected, sniffed, inhaled…} Slide #10- Long & Short term harmful effects of your drug. {Maybe more than one slide. One slide for long term & another for short term effects} Slide #11- Withdraw Symptoms – if you quit using the drug what does your body go through? Refer to CHAPTER 21 – Drugs for assistance. 2.) TITLE each of your slides 3.) Make sure your slides are “eye catching” – pictures / graphics must be on ALL slides. Colorful & CREATIVE!! 4.) Make sure your font size is readable. If you have extra space make it bigger! If you have a lot of information instead of squeezing it all in on one slide make it into TWO slides! 5.) LIST your facts / information either using numbers, bullets {press option 8 at the same time}, or asterisks. On the control panel – FORMAT - BULLETS & NUMBERING - click on BULLET & choose your style. ALL FACTS MUST BE IN YOUR OWN WORDS!! This helps separate your information, make it neat & organized, & one can look at it and gather information quickly. AVOID writing in sentence / paragraph form. Information should be limited to very few words! * 1. • * 2. • * 3. • 6.) Keep the BACKGROUD slide the same. You can get creative by your font, color, boarders, pictures, & graphics. Do not have your graphics / words fly in & out. NO noises. 7.) Keep your slides in the order as they appear on your requirement sheet. 8.) Be able to explain your slides beyond what is written on the slides!!!! Oral Presentation TIPS: 1.) Make eye contact with your classmates – DO NOT constantly look down at your note cards or at the screen. 2.) More or less you need to memorize a large portion of your presentation. NOTE CARDS MAY BE USED. Anyone can research a drug, make a power point, & read from it. You need to be knowledgeable / an expert on your drug. TALK to the class vs. READING!! SAY MORE – WRITE LESS! 3.) Rehearse your presentation several times PRIOR to the day your are scheduled to present. PRACITCE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE!! You need to be able to pronounce & know meanings of all words! Talk clearly, slowly, & loud enough for everyone to hear. 4.) Don’t forget to say an introduction & conclusion. INTRODUCTION IDEAS: 5 sentences – Define drugs in general, why are they bad, how do they harm people & their lives, make a strong statement as to why one should not do drugs. What else can you do besides drugs, tell a true story relating to your drug that you found in your research. The last sentence should introduce your specific drug. CONCLUSION IDEAS: *Your conclusion should start out specific about your drug & get general. Review the main points associated with your drug. Finish by talking about drugs in general and why we should avoid them. (5 sentences) Directions for DROPPING your PowerPoint: a. Make sure your PowerPoint is closed b. Open your finder (smile face on the far left side) c. Find your correct PowerPoint Project saved as (YOUR CLASS PERIOD) P. 5 FIRST NAME, Last initial, & the NAME OF YOUR DRUG. Example: P.5 Sarah L. Crack d. Open your TEAM file folder next to the trash can on the right side e. Click on Martinez folder f. Drag project into the drop box. (you will get some kind of message saying you don’t have permission to see this… click OK!)
