A Doll’s House Final Project
Your final assignment for A Doll’s House will be a writing assignment; you may choose one of
the options below. Each of the options will require the use of quotes from the play, but will also
allow for creativity. No matter which option you choose, final projects must be at least 2 doublespaced pages.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OPTION #1: Marriage Counselor’s Report
For this option, you will be the marriage counselor. You will report on the recent visits of your
clients: Nora & Torvald Helmer.
You must type a report on the couple’s background:
How long have they been married? Kids? Employment?
Who initiated the counseling and why?
What conflicts exist? How did they begin?
How do the two view these conflicts differently? (One quote per person)
Then, as a professional, give your diagnosis.
How does each person contribute to the marriage problems?
Can their marriage be saved?
What changes must be made?
Can either (Both? Neither?) make the necessary changes?
If the marriage is doomed, whose fault is it?
Get creative…
You can submit it in a file folder, include pictures, have a list of dates when they visited
your office, create a logo for your business, etc.

For this option, you will write an epilogue or create a fourth act to the play, explaining what
happens to the characters. They could bump into each other weeks later or years later – your
choice.
You must…
…start with a description of the scene and then write it in the format of a play.
…include at least three characters from the play.
…have characters question and explain their actions in the play.
…provide updates on how characters’ lives have changed since the end of act three.
…include at least two quotes form the play (For example, “why did you say…?”)
…include at least two vocabulary words in proper context (underline them)
…proper some conclusion to the characters who re-unite.
Get creative…
Think of interesting characters for this reunion. Where might they meet? How do they
reunite? Some shocking new developments?
OPTION #3: Letter exchange or Journal entries
For this option, you will write an exchange of letters between two characters after the play ends
OR write a series of journal entries from one character’s point of view.
You must include…
…the character’s explanation of his/her choices in the play.
…details of how his/her life was affected by at least ne other character.
…a description of what has happened to him/her since the play ended.
…at least two quotes form the play – you can use them to explain why you did what you
did or how someone’s words affected you, etc.
…at least two vocabulary words used in proper context (underline them)
…one sentence that uses a semi-colon properly (bold it)
Get creative…
It can be right after play ends or years later. Make it look like an old-fashioned letter.
Use similar phrases that that character used from the play (lark, squirrel, etc.)
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------OPTION #4: Standard five-paragraph essay
For this (non-creative) option, you will write a five-paragraph essay, analyzing the importance of
parent-child relationships.
Your essay must…
…start with an introduction paragraph and have a clear thesis.
…analyze the effects of three parent-child relationships in the body paragraphs.
…include at least one quote for each relationship, with proper citations.
…be written in present tense and carefully proofread.
…properly include at least one sentence with a semi-colon (bold it).
…conclude by explaining the importance of this relationships and the kinds of effects
they can have.
