COURSE SYLLABUS
Course Title: Organizational Behavior
Course Number: MGT506

1. Course Description: Behavioral theories of the organization are important for the
effective operation of organizations. Behaviors of individuals and groups in
organizations serve to determine the organizational climate and health. This
course examines the nature of behavior in organizations.
2. Course Learning Outcomes: Participants will be expected to:
- Become knowledgeable of the personality and competency influences on
behavior
- Learn how to use perception and judgment in influencing organizational
behavior
- Develop an ability for decision making
- Recognize the role of motivation on performance
- Distinguish between satisfaction and stress in the work place
- Become familiar with interpersonal processes and communication
- Gain an understanding of the need for organization and job redesign
3. Course Concepts: Participants will be expected to understand these major
concepts:
- Goal formulation
- Strategy development and implementation
- Competency and personality
- Perception and judgment
- Decision making
- Job satisfaction and stress
- Communication processes
- Power, policies, and conflict
- Leadership styles
- Formal vs. informal organizational behaviors
4. Learning Activities: The learning activities employed to explore the course
concepts and attain the course goals are:
- Reading assignments
- Case analysis and experiential exercises
- Written assignments
- Brief lectures
- Assessment exercises and instruments
- Class discussions and oral presentations
5. Performance Requirements: To attain the course goals and understand the
major concepts, participants are invited to:
- Participate in experiential exercises designed by the professor
- Discuss organizational behavior as related to their own organizational
context
- Analyze competency and personality aspects of human behaviors
- Evaluate the decision making process
- Explain motivation and performance theories
- Describe aspects of interpersonal processes and communication
- Discuss the approaches to leadership based on the development level of
employees
- Describe group and inter-group relations
- Discuss topics relating to managing the organization
- Analyze organizational behavior cases
6. Course/Learning Assessment: Students are expected to complete all
performance requirements for the course and to demonstrate mastery of the course
concepts and goals through such evaluation means as a term paper and other
required coursework.

***It is recommended that students work as a team, discussing the answers to
enhance learning. Each Student must individually write his/her own answers
for the paper to be submitted. If two papers are the same both students will
fail.
***All written exercises need to be submitted to SCUPS joint program
representative before the Professor arrives for teaching. All papers need to be
typed and double spaced. Each submission needs to include a cover sheet with
the student’s name, address, phone, email address, date, course number, course
name, paper title, and name of the program for example: “SCUPS/Asean UnivCambodia joint program”. All information needs to be written in ENGLISH. The
cover page is very important for each submission as SCUPS receives hundreds of
submissions weekly, and it is important to have this information to ensure
accountability.
Main Term Paper: To be explained later when the Professor arrives in your
location.
