Assignment: Write a 500-word essay on the following topic.
Jane Goodall possesses many personal qualities and characteristics that
make her successful as a biologist. In the early days of her study of
chimpanzees at Gombe, she relied upon those qualities and
characteristics to make two discoveries that “rocked the scientific
world.” Those discoveries are featured in the video, “Among the Wild
Chimpanzees” and also in the chapter “First Observations” from the
book In the Shadow of Man.
Describe those two discoveries and explain how she made them. Also
explain why those discoveries were so important to science. And, give
examples from the video and the book that show how she used her
personal qualities and characteristics to help her make those
discoveries.
