SUMMER READING PROGRAM 2009
The summer reading assignment is an opportunity for Loyola Blakefield students to grow personally and intellectually.
Our aim is for students to appreciate quality literature as well as maintain and improve their reading skills.
All students are required to read the books assigned to their grade. For one of the assigned books, there will be a test in
Religion class, for the second a test in English class, and for the third, a test in History class. (The one exception to this
testing schedule is for upcoming seniors. As not all seniors will be taking a History class, seniors only need to read two
books which will be tested in their Religion and English classes.) As assessments will be given during the first week of
school, students are encouraged to do their assigned reading in late July and August.
Note: Some upper level classes may require summer reading in addition to the books listed below. For example, Upper
School students taking AP European History will be expected to read The Prince by Niccolò Machiavelli.
