The goal of the Council is to promote spiritual unity and to establish organization within the ASB of Maranatha High School. Council Pledge: We, the Student Council, are committed to encourage a relational environment that strengthens the Christcentered and unified community of Maranatha High School through spirit, service, and integrity. Nominee Qualifications: Personal Characteristics 1. Shall be a professing Christian, exhibiting a strong Christian attitude. 2. Must be organized and capable of communicating and delegating responsibilities. Demonstrated Credibility 1. Shall have a signed parental permission slip. 2. Shall be approved by the faculty. Three expressions of concern by the faculty/administration shall constitute disapproval of a candidate. 3. Must have a letter of recommendation from at least one pastor or spiritual mentor and one MHS teacher expressing their observation of the candidate’s strong Christian testimony and leadership skills. 4. Shall complete the appropriate application process for the position desired. Official School Record 1. Must have attended Maranatha High School at least one year prior to term of office with the exception of Freshman Class Officers. 2. Shall not hold any other ASB elected office or any elected office in any other school affiliated club while on Student Council. 3. Shall have attended at least one student council event, excluding mandatory activities, that year. 4. Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and must have a minimum 2.5 GPA for the preceding grade report. 5. Shall not have missed more than 15 days of school the preceding semester. 6. Shall be in good standing behavior with the school in the current and preceding semester. Appointment Process Below are the necessary instructions for campaigning, speeches, appointing of Project L.E.A.D. members and class representatives. ASB Presidential Election Campaign & Selection Process Seniors interested in being selected as ASB President must meet all necessary requirements as stated in the ASB guidelines. In order to be considered, students must fill out the application in its entirety and turn in Mr. Kozak before March 11, 2016. Once completed applications are collected, the ASB director will hold short preliminary interviews. If there are three or more potential candidates for ASB President, the candidates will engage in a general election process. [for campaign instructions see “Campaigning & Election Procedures (Class Officers)” below]. In this election process, the student body will select two potential candidates. After which these candidates will be interviewed by a panel consisting of the following representatives of the school community: ASB Director, Administrator, Counselor, Teacher, Coach, and students in all grades. The committee will then give its recommendation to the ASB Director for the office of president. If in the event that administration feels a particular student to be a good fit, then he or she can be nominated to the general election without the need for signatures. Project L.E.A.D. Appointment Process Applicants for Project L.E.A.D. will complete the necessary ASB application and submit it to Mr. Kozak no later than March 11, 2016 All applications will be reviewed and interviews with each student will be scheduled during the week of March 14, 2016. Students who are not selected will be first given the option of running for class president or to be interviewed (with special consideration) for class council. 1 of 3 Maranatha High School © 2015 Selected students will be notified of their newly appointed position April 4, 2016. Candidates wishing to run for class presidents may begin their campaign April 8, 2016. Campaigning & Election Procedures (Class Officers) Only those seeking to be elected class president or class vice president need to run a campaign. If no candidate wishes to be elected vice president, any candidate running for president not elected will be interviewed by the ASB director and subsequently appointed to the position. Please follow the guidelines below very carefully. No materials for campaigning shall be displayed by any candidate until the day prior to the appropriate election and the day of the election. Materials for campaigns may be displayed no sooner than Friday April 8, 2015. Each candidate shall post in designated areas a maximum of four posters not to exceed the size three feet by five feet. No other form of campaigning will be allowed (stickers, candy, flyers, etc.). Designated areas are as follows: Space provided each candidate on the ASB bulletin board, the boards located in the stairwells in the Academic Center. All posters, must be approved by the ASB President and the ASB Director. The candidates should place most of his/her emphasis on the speech and public relations. The candidates and their campaign manager shall be permitted to wear name tags, shirts and other forms of publicity to identify themselves for elections. This is to be permitted during the campaign period only. However students must seek approval for any dress code adjustments. There shall be no form of campaigning within the sight of the ballot box at the time of the elections. In the event of the nominee not being able to give his/her own speech due to circumstances outside his/her control, his/her campaign manager shall be able to give the speech he/she has written. Candidate Speeches Each candidate shall give a campaign speech in a special assembly of the entire student body on the day of the election when running for an ASB office. If running for class council, the 2 of 3 Maranatha High School © 2015 candidate shall give a campaign speech before his or her respective class. This special assembly will occur on Tuesday April 12, 2016, 11:28-12:23pm Each candidate shall be allotted five minutes for their speech/address Current ASB members are not to be campaign managers or actively endorse a candidate. Each candidate will meet with Mr. Kozak to review contents of their speech to ensure that it adheres to the standards and practices concurrent with the philosophy and goals of the school. Appointment of Class Representatives Candidates seeking appointment for class representative will meet for a one-on-one interview with Mr. Kozak and then, following the election process, a panel interview with the ASB Project L.E.A.D. team and newly elected class presidents and vice presidents. 3 of 3 Maranatha High School © 2015 Pastor / Christian Leader Reference Request Form _________________________ is applying for a student leadership team at Maranatha High School. This is a group that aims to development Christ-like leadership skills in students by creating environments throughout Maranatha where students can experience community and divine transformation.
