Maranatha High School Associated Student Body Student Council Application Class President Purpose Statement: The purpose of the Student Council shall be to promote fellowship within the school and to maintain Christian standards in all areas of life, to improve the school by coordinating student activities and promoting school spirit; and to promote understanding among students, faculty and the administration. The goal of the Council is to promote spiritual unity and to establish organization within the ASB of Maranatha High School. Council Pledge: We, the Student Council, are committed to encourage a relational environment that strengthens the Christ-centered and unified community of Maranatha High School through spirit, service, and integrity. Nominee Qualifications: Personal Characteristics 1. Shall be a professing Christian, exhibiting a strong Christian attitude. 2. Must be organized and capable of communicating and delegating responsibilities. Demonstrated Credibility 1. Shall have a signed parental permission slip. 2. Shall be approved by the faculty. Three expressions of concern by the faculty/administration shall constitute disapproval of a candidate. 3. Must have a letter of recommendation from at least one pastor or spiritual mentor and one MHS teacher expressing their observation of the candidate’s strong Christian testimony. 4. Shall complete the appropriate application process for the position desired. Official School Record 1. Must have attended Maranatha High School at least one year prior to term of office with the exception of Freshman Class Officers. 2. Shall not hold any other ASB elected office or any elected office in any other school affiliated club while on Student Council. 3. Shall have attended at least one student council event, excluding mandatory activities, that year. 4. Must have at least a 2.5 cumulative grade point average and must have a minimum 2.5 GPA for the preceding grade report. 5. Shall not have missed more than 20 days of school the preceding semester. 6. Shall have no more than 3 disciplinary referrals in the preceding semester (excluding after school detentions for tardies). Requirements for Class President: 1. 2. Must be a member in good standing of the class they hope to lead. Must be committed to attending all Class Council meetings (more than two unexcused absences in a given semester could be grounds for impeachment). Duties of Class President: 1. Shall keep their class informed of the Student Council’s decisions. 2. Shall be responsible to turn in class reports during each business meeting. 3. Shall be responsible to clear any class plans with the Student Council. 4. Shall be responsible to confer with the Class Advisor(s) concerning a class meeting agenda and then submit the agenda to the Student Council Advisors. 5. Shall be responsible to lead Class Councils consisting of students from the class. 6. Shall be responsible to plan activities that promote class spirit and community service. 7. Shall attend all class activities and participate in service projects.
