Student Volunteer Center Alternative Spring Break 2013 Policies & Program Agreement Attendance I. Participants are expected to attend all pre-trip meetings. Meetings will begin promptly; therefore, participants must be on time. II. Full participation during the ASB trip is required. This includes work projects, activities, discussions, meals, and downtime. III. If students miss more than two meetings without notification for a significant reason, they will be asked to excuse themselves from the trip to allow a more committed student from the waiting list the opportunity. Fundraising I. Participants are accountable for $150 per person to contribute to registration, supplies, accommodations, meals, and transportation fees. This fee may be raised through group or individual fundraisers, and personal checks made out to “UC Regents”. The total payment of $150 must be received by March 20, 2013. II. If for any reason you are unable to attend ASB, SVC will not be able to refund the amount that was donated in your name. III. Students may fundraise in the following ways: Letter writing: Participants may write letters to friends, families, or businesses requesting donations. SVC will support participants in this process. Fundraisers: Participants may support group fundraising events hosted by SVC. Participants must staff the event for at least one hour in order for the split proceeds to contribute to their final ASB payment total. Volunteer Hours: Participants will be granted $20 for each hour of community service, with a limit of $100 per individual. SVC will host a monthly volunteer opportunity, and provide information on other community events in need of volunteers. Supervisor sign off is required. Scholarship: Participants may apply for a scholarship of up to $145 based on proof of financial aid qualifications (a signature from the financial aid office) and a letter explaining need and inability to participate in group fundraising or volunteering efforts. The form to acquire the signature from the financial aid office will be provided during the first ASB participant meeting. A check with the remaining balance must be made to “UC Regents” and handed in to the Student Volunteer Center by March 20, 2013. Alcohol and Drug Policy ASB participants are required to be substance free during the trip and all meetings prior to the trip. This policy applies to all participants regardless of their age. This will ensure the safety and well-being of the group and contribute to a productive and positive experience for all. UCSC Policies I. The Student Code of Conduct (101.10) states: i. The UC Santa Cruz campus shall have jurisdiction over the conduct of students and student organizations, which occurs on university property or in connection with office university functions. In addition, the campus shall have discretion to exercise jurisdiction over conduct which occurs off-campus and which would violate student conduct and discipline policies or regulations if the conduct occurred on campus when the alleged misconduct indicates the student may be a threat to the safety or security of members of the university community or university property, functions, or facilities. II. The Student Code of Conduct (102.18) states: i. Manufacture, distribution, dispensing, possession, use, or sale of, or the attempted manufacture, distribution, dispensing, or sale of alcohol which is unlawful or otherwise prohibited by, or not in compliance with, university policy or campus regulations, which include: 1. The manufacture, sale, transporting, furnishing, possessing of intoxicating liquor; maintaining unlawful drinking places; bootlegging; operating a still; furnishing liquor to a minor or intemperate person; using a vehicle for illegal transportation of liquor; drinking on a train or public conveyance; or any attempt to commit any of the foregoing violations (this list does not include drunkenness and driving under the influence); or 2. All other alcohol-related rules, regulations and laws not included in (102.18a) Participants in violation of the alcohol and drug policy: May be asked to leave, and are responsible for their own transportation home Will be ineligible to participate in future ASB trips Upon arrival back at UCSC will face full judicial consequences.
