ifs ProShare reveal positive numbers for all-employee share schemes
Earlier today ifs ProShare, the voice of the employee share ownership industry in the UK, published
their Annual 2014 Share Incentive Plan (SIP) and Save As You Earn (SAYE) employee share plan
survey results.
The survey provides comprehensive industry figures for the whole of 2013 utilising data from the
largest administrators of SIP and SAYE schemes in the UK. These are the two most popular allemployee share plans available in the UK.
In relation to SAYE schemes, the ifs ProShare survey revealed that;

Over 1.2 million employees continued to save in a SAYE scheme in 2013.
There was a year-on-year increase in the average monthly savings contribution per employee from £105.83 in 2012 to £107.76 in 2013.
There was further good news as the stock market continues to recover - the total number of
companies with underwater options at maturity continued to fall steeply, almost halving from
more than 120 in 2010 to just over 60 in 2013.
A further million employees in the UK are participating in a SIP and the ifs ProShare survey
highlighted some useful information about developments in both company and employee activity in
respect of this share scheme too. For example:
•
•
•
The weighted average value per employee of SIP holding (including Partnership, Matching,
Free & Dividend Shares) was £7,028.57 (compared to £6,131.88 in 2012)
The weighted average value of Free Shares awarded continues to increase, and in 2013 was
£983.01 (£839.29 in 2012; £536.37 in 2011 and £675.98 in 2010).
The average award value of all Free Shares awarded including 2013, as at the date of the
awards, rose to £3,261 from £1,101.73 in 2012.
Anne Kiem, Chair of the ifs ProShare Advisory Panel said:
“The comprehensive ifs ProShare survey results indicate that the industry remains in very good
health. At the same time the thirty page report highlights areas that may require some attention, areas
that demonstrate rapid change – like the switch to online provision of employee information – and
longer term trends that advisers, administrators and companies large and small will doubtless find
useful.”
Kiem concluded with a note of thanks;
“We are very grateful to Computershare, and all of their clients, for helping us compile this extremely
important data which provides such a great insight into the employee share plans landscape in the UK
today.”
