Miss Miller’s Timetable for w/c 14th Jan Mon Stav am/Kirk pm Tues Stav am/ Kirk pm Weds Kirk am/Stav pm Thurs Meeting Fri Stav am/ Kirk pm . Welcome back & happy 2013. I hope you had a peaceful and enjoyable Christmas break and the children are looking forward to the term ahead. On behalf of all the staff I would like to thank you for the many gifts we received for Christmas , it is very kind and much appreciated. Miss Emma Miller This term, the children at Kirk Hammerton and Staveley are studying the same topic, megastructures/grand designs. The teachers have planned some joint activities which will allow the children to work with their peers, share ideas/resources and also visit each other’s schools again. As a staff team and along with the support of our governors, we feel that our partnership provides many opportunities for the children to enhance their learning as well as developing their social skills and friendship groups. On Monday 14th January the year 2 and 3 children from Staveley will travel to Kirk Hammerton with their teacher. Both Y2 and 3 from both schools will be taking part in a ‘building’ day! The years 4/5/6 from Kirk Hammerton will travel to Staveley for the day with Mr Cooper. Class 3 will need to bring packed lunches for that day. Class 3 along with the children from Staveley will take part in a day of building activities related to our new topic, megastructures. Over Christmas Mr Cooper has been collecting cardboard boxes, plastic bottles and other clean, reusable junk. We would be really grateful if you could send any similar items into school (preferably by Friday) so we can make best use of them. Well done! A message from Mrs Lanzillotti, Mrs Greer & Mr Cooper Our Spring term topic is megastructures which lends itself very nicely to some fantastic building projects. Class 1 would be very pleased to relieve you of any large boxes that might find their way delivered to your houses over the holidays! We would also like to borrow any clothes airers, pegs, large sheets, old drain pipes, tyres or large plastic bread trays – anything that would lend itself nicely to large scale den building. We will also be happy to relieve you of any small cereal boxes, kitchen roll tubes, twisty bread ties or masking tape. Finally we are also trying to source a builder who might be interested in coming in & demonstrating how to build a small wall in our school grounds. We are bursting with ideas about our new topic! Special Thank you To Natalia, Bethany, Julia, Liam, Guy, Bertie, Will and Sebastian for coming along to the York Minster on Sat 22nd Dec. It was truly a magical moment. The magnificent surrounding of the Minster made this a unique experience for the children and their performance equally matched the occasion.
