SHRP Educational Research Grants
ANNOUNCEMENT OF THE PROGRAM
To reinforce SHRP’s commitment to scholarship and education, in support of the school’s mission and
objectives, the school will fund a number of educational research projects which will document the
effectiveness, efficiency or enrichment of distance education in the health sciences.
Grants will be available to greater than 50% faculty with a demonstrated record of conducting this kind of
research.
THE GRANT REQUEST
The school invites grant applications in the general field of educational research which are consistent with
the educational and research goals of SHRP. Faculty members who meet the eligibility requirements (see
below) may request funds to initiate a research project with the objective of furthering the educational
mission of the school in one, or both, of the following categories:
1) Educational effectiveness and efficiency of education methods. Proposals designed to measure the
effectiveness of distance learning, to compare strategies and techniques used in distance learning or to
expand and enhance the effectiveness of distance learning will be favored. Studies to re-engineer
courses to maintain quality and increase productivity, or study academic integrity are encouraged.
2) Educational Enrichment. Proposals designed to study educational innovation will be considered, in
areas such as curriculum. Proposals can study the development and delivery of information, the
implementation of innovative changes in curricula, creative teaching methods, a new course design,
academic integrity, etc.
To fulfill the scholarly goals of this program, all projects should include a plan to disseminate the results
of the research in an appropriate scholarly/professional publication at the conclusion of the project.
AMOUNT OF AWARDS
All awards will be for modest amounts meant to facilitate research and in no case will exceed $2,000.
Awards in excess of this amount will be considered only with full justification and individual support by
the Associate Dean for Research.
Funding - Awards for this round of grants will be made on a rolling basis as long as funds remain
