Interested Applicants To: All Individuals Interested in Entering the Interpreter Training Program From: Ruby Losh, Coordinator of Sign Language Interpreter Program Re: Requirements for Entering the Interpreter Training Program The Interpreter Training Program is a two-year Associate of Science degree of Fairmont State Community and Technical College. To gain admission to the Interpreter Training Program students must apply for admission to Fairmont State Community and Technical College. The program is competitive. Priority consideration will be given to the students that have completed the one year American Sign Language communication immersion program. Enrollment in this program is limited. All applications will be reviewed and evaluated. The Office of Admission will notify students of the committee’s decision by mail. Pre-Admission Requirements Admission to FSCTC (This is not synonymous with admission to the ITP.) Minimum grade of "C" or higher in AMSL 1101, 1104, 1111, 1112, 1113, and 1114. Upon completion of pre-admission requirements, students will submit an application of intent for admission to the Sign Language Interpreter Program to Ruby Losh Coordinator, Fairmont State Community and Technical College, 303A Jaynes Hall, Fairmont, West Virginia 26554. The formal application of intent will be evaluated upon submission. Admission Requirements An FSCTC GPA of 2.0 or higher. Successful completion of AMSL 1101, 1104, 1111, 1112, 1113, and 1114, with a grade of "C" or higher, and an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher for these classes. ACT or COMPASS scores in math or completion of the applicable developmental classes. Completion of an admission interview by the SLIP Interview Committee. Transcripts from all postsecondary work Applicants must submit a statement of career ambitions, goals, and interest in the Interpreter Training Program. Two letters of recommendation. The Sign Language Interpreter Program Interview Committee will select and rank applicants using the following criteria: 1) signing skills, 2) GPA, 3) interview score, and 4) videotape score.
