Jacob Cooley
Artist Biography: Born in 1968 in Sydney, Australia. Received an MFA in painting from University of North Carolina at
Chapel Hill in 1993. Was graduated in 1990 with a BFA from University of Georgia, Athens. Studied at Antioch College
in Yellow Springs, Ohio from 1986-1988.
Represented at Lyman-Eyer Gallery in Provincetown, MA; Blue Spiral Gallery in Asheville, NC; Center of the Earth
Gallery in Charlotte, NC; Trinity Gallery in Atlanta, GA; Gallery 454 in Grosse Pointe, MI; Raleigh Contemporary in
Raleigh, NC; Tyndall Gallery in Durham, NC and Fountainside Gallery in Wilmington, NC. Jacob lives and works in
North Carolina.
Artist Statement: These new paintings are informed by harmonious, hallowed places, landscapes about
contemplation and the spirit, but also about the transient, ephemeral characteristics of light and darkness and
ultimately, of life. This work attempts to capture and hold the instant when the orange of the sun is about to completely
scatter, or the thunderclouds move to entirely obscure the horizon. Moments.
