The Bridges Walk - 11 September 2011
Registration Form
The Bridges Walk covers 15 miles and crosses the Thames 18 times.
We start off from Tower Bridge at 10:00am and follow the river along both banks as far as
Vauxhall Bridge, and then return to Tower Bridge, arriving back about 16.00 pm.
We stop for our lunch at the Victoria Gardens, which is next to the Houses of Parliament, so don’t
forget to bring a packed lunch with you. You do not have to carry it with you as we have back-up
transport to carry it for us. You can also finish your walk here if you would prefer to. (Please let us
know if this is your option)
The walk will coincide with Thames Festival Weekend so that there is lots of activity along the
South Bank.

Walkers meet just outside Potters Fields Gardens, Tooley Street, between 9.30 and
10.00 am.
There will be a support vehicle available where you can put your packed lunches, bags,
and anything else that you do not want to carry. Just carry your water and don’t forget
your camera. The vehicle will be close enough around the walk to call up in an
emergency.
After the walkers have signed in (and collected your quiz sheet) we set off across Tower
Bridge and follow a river route, crossing the bridges across the Thames, until we reach
the Victoria Gardens, next to the House of Lords. There we meet up with the support
vehicle and collect our packed lunch. If you have not brought a lunch with you there are a
few snack bars and pubs where you can pick up sandwiches or pies, etc.
After lunch, those continuing make their way back to Tower Bridge, retracing the route of
the morning.
The walk is not a race, just a walk to match everyone’s pace and ability.
For extra entertainment along the walk there will be a quiz sheet for you to fill in.
The Mayor of London has also kindly arranged the Thames Festival for us on this
weekend. There will be lots of entertainment along the South Bank, along with market
stalls and food stalls.
The walk will finish by about 4.30, so if you want to spend some more time at the festival
it is not far to walk!!!
At the end of the walk a certificate of completion will be presented.
If you have the stamina, later on during the evening there will be a spectacular firework
display from barges moored on the Thames between Waterloo and Blackfriars Bridges.
To register for the walk fill in the attached form and return it to: Judy Spence
A £10 registration fee should be sent with each application.
