PRESS RELEASE
Issue Date: 5 March 2007
LITTLETHORPE OF LEICESTER TO SUPPLY CLEAR CHANNEL
ADVERTISING
Local joinery company Littlethorpe of Leicester has been going from strength
to strength since becoming a member of the British Woodworking Federation.
A major manufacturer of bespoke hardwood bus shelters, the company has
just become a supplier to Clear Channel Outdoor, the market leader in
providing advertising-financed bus shelters. The first shelter for Clear
Channel has been installed near Bamburgh Castle, Northumberland and
others will be designed and supplied on demand.
Established in 1983, Littlethorpe of Leicester also has contracts with councils
across the UK and continues to supply Leicestershire County Council with its
timber bus shelters. The company prides itself on being environmentallyaware, offering an attractive product of high quality to councils throughout the
UK. Its craftsmen make functional pieces of street furniture, environmentenhancing structures for people to use and enjoy. Each shelter is designed
by managing director Andy Robinson to give a unique feel to each bus shelter
in its local environment.
Littlethorpe of Leicester is the first bus shelter manufacturer to be certified by
the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), sourcing all its wood from sustainablymanaged forests. The shelters are made form piquia, similar to oak in
appearance and durability.

The company maintains that wood is a much better alternative to metal in the
manufacture of bus shelters, due to its sustainability, low maintenance and
ability to blend in with its environment. Water-based paints are used to coat
the shelters to further minimise their environmental impact.
Andy Robinson said: “Our clients are becoming increasingly concerned about
where wood is sourced and how sustainable it is. Our FSC certification
proves to them that we are a responsible company. To add to our
environmental credentials, we are working with Zeta Controls, specialists in
solar lighting, to build timber bus shelters for the Scottish Borders Council
fitted with solar powered lights – a similar project to one we have completed
recently for sheltering bus travellers in a number of Worcestershire villages.”
