THE AMERICAN HUMANE SOCIETY REPORTS THAT
ANIMAL SHELTER EUTHANASIA IS SOARING. OF THE
ONE THOUSAND SHELTERS THAT REPLIED TO A
NATIONAL SURVEY, APPROXIMATELY TWO POINT
SEVEN MILLION ANIMALS IN JUST ONE THOUSAND
SHELTERS WERE EUTHANIZED.

shelter in Aiken County.
MORE CATS ARE EUTHANIZED BECAUSE THEY ARE
MORE LIKELY TO NOT HAVE ANY OWNER
IDENTIFICATION. LESS THAN TWENTY PERCENT OF
ANIMALS THAT ENTER SHELTERS ARE REUNITED
WITH THEIR OWNERS.
THE AMERICAN HUMAN SOCIETY BELIEVES THAT
THERE ARE TWO WAYS WE CAN ALL HELP WITH
LOWERING EUTHANASIA RATES. THE FRIST WAY IS
LOCAL ANIMAL SHELTERS PROVIDING CITIZENS
WITH LOW COST SPAY AND NEUTERING CLINICS.
THE SECOND WAY IS CITIZENS PROPERLY
IDENTIFYING THEIR ANIMALS WITH AN
IDENTIFICATION TAG INCLUDING THEIR NAME,
ADDRESS, PHONE NUMBER AND PET’S NAME.

to spay and neuter them, we allow the animals to return
when they are older to get fixed.”
