Graduate School Forum 2006 Presented by Philadelphia Section ACS, Villanova University and Merck Research Laboratories Monday, November 13, 2006: 5:30 p.m. - 8:30 p.m. Our program this year will introduce you to graduate Chemistry Departments and Departments of Polymer Science and Materials Science. Most are here to promote doctoral programs. Several schools, however, offer the M.S. as their highest degree, involving full-time students and, often, part-time students who are full-time industrial employees. We have invited some departments that are world-class, some that are nationally well known, and others with a fine regional reputation. They are located in various parts of the United States. In all, we have an excellent and diverse group for students to consider. The schools invited are: Akron - Polymer Science Boston College Brown Bryn Mawr Bucknell California-Berkeley Chicago Columbia Cornell Delaware Drexel Duke Illinois Indiana Iowa State Johns Hopkins Lehigh Louisiana State Maryland College Park Maryland-Baltimore County MIT Michigan Michigan State Minnesota North Carolina North Western Notre Dame Ohio State Pennsylavania Penn State Penn Materials Science Pittsburg Vanderbilt Princeton Purdue Rochester Rutgers Rutgers-Camden Stanford St Joseph’s Temple Texas A&M UCLA UC Irvine University of the Sciences UT Southwestern Med Center Utah Villanova Virginia Washington West Chester Wisconsin Yale The program will begin at 5:30 p.m. This starting time enables those coming from a distance to arrive home at a reasonable hour. All events will be in the Connelly Center. We open in the St. DavidsRadnor Room with greetings by Dr. Helen Mitchell of Merck Research Laboratories, our corporate sponsor. Next, Prof. Robert Levis and Prof.Marisa Kozlowski will speak on how to apply to graduate school and the interview process Two Chemistry graduate students from the University of Pennsylvania and Temple University will tell about their lives as graduate students. Everyone will receive a food voucher for use in Belle Air Terrace, the food court in the Connelly Center, for use afterwards. University displays will start around 6:20 p.m. next door in the Villanova Room. University representatives will be there to talk about their departments until about 8:30 p.m. We encourage students and SAACS faculty advisors to meet them, ask plenty of questions, and find out what makes their departments stand out. Each of them produces numerous, highly successful graduates. This program is the final event of the Philadelphia Section ACS National Chemistry Week program. It is free to everyone and a great opportunity for sophomore, junior, and senior students to see for themselves that a graduate degree can be a valuable platform for an excellent career. WE CORDIALLY INVITE YOU AND YOUR STUDENTS TO ATTEND! COME AS A GROUP! For more information visit: Phila. Section of the ACS http://membership.acs.org/p/philadelphia/index.html
