Civil War Historical Theme Park
Project Overview: The student will use their knowledge of a historical event to create a
theme park.
General Directions: You are allowed to work with one other person. If you work with
someone the amount of work will stay the same. The maximum amount of people working
together is two. You must be neat, make it colorful, and fill up the paper used for the
assignment.
1. Brainstorm a list of the most important people, places, and events that took place during
the Civil War. You must use items we have learned about. For example, you can not
write about Robert Fulton because we have not studied about that. You can use any of
the information in Chapters 16 & 17. Use the timelines on the following pages: A) 508509 B) 534-535
2. You will choose four items from the Civil War to create rides on in your theme park.
PICTURES
3. Each ride needs a picture of the ride and one of the historical item. Add two extra civil
war pictures. You will have 6 pictures from the Civil War and 4 pictures of rides for a
total of 10 pictures. Glue them onto your poster surrounding your main picture. Do not
have similar pictures!
Helpful Hint- Your pictures should be properly sized. You can change the size
of printed pictures by pasting them into Microsoft Word. Do not put blurry
pictures on your poster.
WRITING
4. The four rides will each have one sentence on the ride, a minimum of two sentences on
the history, and a date.
5. You will have also have one paragraph that is an advertisement for your theme park.
You will have 5 paragraphs total.
6. Draw your theme park on a 12 by 18 inch sheet of construction paper.
7. Include types of features that theme parks might have, such as pathways, rides, park
areas, shops, video arcades, and museums. Add a map legend or key to help tourists
as they walk through the historical theme park.
