more…DSA San Diego is taking the lead on establishing a healthcare network to
design and coordinate a system of healthcare, treatment and research to meet the
diverse and complex needs of children and adults with Down syndrome.
To learn more about health concerns and cutting edge treatment, interventions and
research from national experts on Down syndrome…Register Today for the
DSA San Diego 21st Research & Healthcare Symposium scheduled for April
17th. Please refer to conference/registration details below. View flyer at
http://www.dsasdonline.org/admin/files/HealthcareSympFlyer.pdf
This conference is a MUST for families, physicians, clinicians, educators and
caregivers. Please invite your family physicians, teachers and therapists.
Scholarships are available for both families and professionals. Contact
dsasd@projects.sdsu.edu or call 619. 594-7389 for details.
Sleep apnea occurs in 1-12% of typical children / 57-80% of children with Ds
AAFP report this as serious health concern children – and according to Cincinnati
Children Hosp…, “It has been suggested that the increased arousal rate seen in
children with Down syndrome may affect their daytime function and could exacerbate
learning or behavior disorders. In children with Down syndrome, behavior and learning
disabilities associated with sleep loss tend to be overlooked and assumed to be
associated with the limited intellectual abilities associated with Down syndrome.”
