NHS GRAMPIAN CHAPLAINCY DEPARTMENT Volunteer Visiting Scheme Commitment To undertake training (see below) Visiting in allocated ward one session (1 – 2 hours) normally once per week at agreed time. Visiting must take place during Chaplaincy Office working Hours , i.e. 8.30am – 4.30pm Monday to Friday To accept all conditions Conditions Volunteer visitors will be required to sign a Confidentiality Form and the requisite forms for a Disclosure Check to take place. Volunteer visitors will be required to wear a hospital badge at all times when in the hospital. The chaplain for the allocated ward will liaise regularly with the volunteer visitor. Volunteer visitors will at all times have access to members of the chaplaincy team for support. There is an Annual Appraisal each year when volunteer will be interviewed by a member of chaplaincy staff Visiting is either in Aberdeen Royal Infirmary, Woodend or Royal Cornhill Hospitals . We do not deploy visitors in Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, Royal Aberdeen Children’s’ Hospital or Roxburghe House. Tasks To visit a designated ward. To introduce themselves to nursing staff on arrival at the ward and seek guidance about which patients may value a visit. To introduce themselves to patients stating name and that they are visiting on behalf of the hospital chaplains. To listen and talk to patients as appropriate. (The scheme is essentially a befriending one, proselytising or advocating for any one particular Faith Group or Life Stance is not permitted. ) To maintain confidentiality when patients disclose personal information. To report back any appropriate matters to the hospital chaplains.
