POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT
Technical Support Specialist (Help Desk)
Under general supervision, installs and provides technical support and problem
resolution to complex PC-based software used at the College. Installs desktops
(workstations), laptops, servers, switches and other technology applications according
to established specifications. Provides technical assistance and support on a continuing
basis to maximize use of available technology and assists in finding solutions to
computer and network-related problems. Upgrades operating systems and application
software. May assist with the maintenance and operation of the College’s voice and
video systems. Develops and conducts training programs on hardware, software, and
network applications to take full advantage of available technology for the efficient and
effective operation of the college. Troubleshoots problems and provides customer
assistance based on an analysis of the problem. Determines technology needs of
internal and external customers and recommends solutions to meet their needs.
Maintains current records (inventory) for IT equipment. Maintains knowledge of current
trends and developments in the field. Perform all other duties as assigned. Ability to
work evenings and on weekends.
Training and experience leading to demonstrated competencies to provide
software/hardware support to multi-user computer network systems; to evaluate
customer requests and identify current system requirements to recommend solutions.
Minimum of 2 years (within the past four years) work experience working in an
environment related to the duties and responsibilities outlined above. A minimum of 1
years work experience in an environment providing software/hardware support for a
multi-user computer network system and evaluating customer requests to identify
current system requirements or problems and recommend solutions. Ability to provide
support for Microsoft Office products (Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
Ability to provide support for Windows operating systems (XP, Vista, 7). Skilled with
Cloning hard drives (e.g., Symantec Ghost, Clonezilla, etc.), Microsoft Exchange
2007/2010, Windows 2003/2008 servers, Cisco switches, PHP scripting, HTML and
Cascading Style Sheets (CSS). NOTE: A combination of work and education will be
considered (i.e., a diploma in computer science or closely-related area and 1
years’ experience).
PREFERRED
QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in
instructional/educational technology, computer information systems or closely related
field. A minimum of 2 years work experience in an environment providing
software/hardware support for a multi-user computer network system and evaluating
customer requests to identify current system requirements or problems and recommend
solutions.
Skilled with Linux, Banner, Sharp/Xerox or other network printer
maintenance, Java Scripting, Macs, Apple Server/SAN. MCSE or MCP certification
preferred.
