Student Success Advisor (Achievement Coach)
The Student Success Advisor (Achievement Coach) is responsible for advising students
on academic programs, general education curriculum, learning support requirements,
and college academic policies and procedures. This position works directly with
students, ensuring their academic success by developing, implementing and monitoring
student academic action plans. The Student Success Advisor (Achievement Coach)
coordinates a broad range of activities and programs that support students’
success/goal attainment. The Student Success Advisor (Achievement Coach) will
research, review, evaluate and advise on the improvement of student processes and
programs. Additionally, this individual is expected to maintain an environment of
academic and professional excellence to aid in student retention and degree
completion. The Student Success Advisor (Achievement Coach) will work closely with
Academic Affairs, Admissions, Career Services and Registrar’s offices. Ultimately, this
position is responsible for coordinating programs that increase student success
including increased integration of Learning Support Services into student retention
initiatives. Also, the Student Success Advisor (Achievement Coach) works individually
with students to create academic and career goals improve study skills and provide or
refer resources to meet student needs.
Bachelor's degree in Education, Liberal Arts, Social Science or related field with six
months to one year experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities
specified. Must possess a demonstrated experience with student retention practices
and programs as well as experience working with students in a higher education
setting. Must have knowledge of student retention strategies, curriculum standards,
instructional strategies, and assessments. Skills in operating a computer and various
supporting software packages. Ability to prioritize multiple projects and work in an
environment with regular interruptions. Must possess excellent written and, verbal and
interpersonal communication skills and the ability to communicate technical concepts
and ideas to individuals and groups.
Master’s degree preferred. One (1) year of professional experience with advising,
retention and/or student success program. Ability to work closely with other units of the
college to develop results driven retention plans. Ability to demonstrate considerable
interpersonal skills and judgment in representing the college effectively in all
interactions with internal and external entities.
