ESLG 320 STUDY GUIDE for TEST: NOUN CLAUSES
 Review Chapter 12 in the textbook, especially the explanations and examples on the
following pages. Below each section is the skill that I expect you to know for the test.
12-1 p. 242
Know what a noun clause is, and what it looks like when you see one.
12-2 p. 244
Be able to make sentences with noun clauses using WH question words.
Remember the correct word order – subject and verb.
Know the correct punctuation – ‘.’ or ‘?’, depending on the main clause.
12-3 p. 249
Be able to make sentences with noun clauses using ‘if’ or ‘whether’ for Yes/No questions.
Know how to spell ‘whether’.
12-4 p. 252
Be able to use verbs for reported speech which have objects and infinitives. (He told me to do it.)
12-5 p. 253
Be able to make sentences with noun clauses using ‘that’. (I knew that it was wrong.)
12-6 p. 258
Know how to directly quote sources in the correct way.
Be able to use ‘say’, ‘tell’, ‘ask’, and other reporting verbs correctly.
12-7 p. 261
Know how to report what people said in the correct way.
Be able to make the verb tense changes required in reported speech.
Be able to make the other changes (pronouns, time words, etc.) as needed.
Also
Be able to make sentences with correct subjunctive forms (base form verbs) after certain verbs and
certain adjectives.
 Review the lecture notes you took during class.
(What? You didn’t take notes? That’s a problem!)
 Review all your homework assignments from Chapter 12, paying special attention to the
areas where you had trouble, and the mistakes that you made.
 Review all handouts the teacher gave you.
 Review the websites on the ESLG 320 class webpage.
On the back you will see some sample exam questions 

FIX ERRORS with noun clauses:

I wonder what will the teacher be like?
COMPLETE the sentence correctly with a noun clause:

CHANGE THE FORM of a conversation into reported/indirect speech:
