Clinical Laboratory Sciences
Students may complete an honors curriculum in University Honors, Upper Division Honors, or
Lower Division Honors. All Honors students must complete the one-hour honors colloquium
(GH 299). Lower Division Honors includes General Honors coursework. Upper Division
Honors includes honors work in the major. University Honors combines Upper and Lower
Division Honors.
Honors students in Clinical Laboratory Science (CLS) must complete all requirements for a CLS
major.
Grade Requirements
-3.5 overall GPA
-3.5 GPA in honors courses
Lower Division Honors Requirements
-two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours), an honors section of the First Year
Experience (3 semester hours) (a General Honors seminar may be substituted in some
cases), and GH 299 (one semester hour).
Upper Division Honors Requirements
-GH 299
-Participate in two research-oriented Honors Seminars (BIOL 470H) for two semester
hours total. Only CLS and Biology majors are eligible for these seminars and Honors
Research.
-Complete 3 semester hours of Honors Research (BIOL 477H). This research would be
an approved project conducted and completed as part of the clinical lab experience while
off-campus during the senior year.
-Complete 3 semester hours of Biol 478H (Senior Honors Thesis). This involves writing
a report on a project under the supervision of a CLS affiliate staff member. The student
writes a paper on a project that they complete and when it is written, it is reviewed by the
CLS affiliate staff member, Department of Biological Sciences Chair, and submitted to
the Departmental Honors Committee for final review and credit. The student also gives a
verbal presentation of their research at the affiliate hospital.
University Honors
-two General Honors seminars (6 semester hours)
-an honors section of the First Year Experience (in some cases a General Honors seminar
may be substituted)

-2 semester hours of Honors Seminars (Biol 470H)
-3 semester hours of Honors research (Zool/Biol/Micro 477H)
