Competitive Player Coordinator

SUMMARY OF THE POSITION’S PURPOSE
This position impacts promoting and developing the growth of tennis in Kentucky by increasing and/or
creating playing opportunities for youth and adults in Kentucky. As staff liaison to the Adult Competition
Committee, the Junior Competition Committee and the Sanctioning and Scheduling Committee you will
be responsible for rules, regulations, levels of play, standings and rankings. You will have full
understanding of the pathway for juniors and adult tournament offerings. You will work to increase play
opportunities for youth and adults through open, age and rated tournaments, or newly identified or
created programs. The coordinator will serve as Tournament Director for several events, including 2
Adult League Championships, and consultant to Tournament Directors in Kentucky for marketing,
administration and support.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
 EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION – High School Diploma

EXPERIENCE – Five years experience in a service related or non-profit field. Prefer competitive
or league tennis participation.

SKILLS – Strong customer service background with marketing, communications and
administrative skills highly regarded. Ability to work well with people, including players,
volunteers, staff and the Kentucky tennis community. Intermediate level of computer knowledge
with a specific working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications. Training will be provided on
TennisLink and Tournament Director Management applications.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS – Expect to work approximately 15 weekends per year to support
tournaments and events around Kentucky. Being available to tournament directors for their
events is also crucial.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES
 Promote and publicize all USTA Sanctioned Tournaments for adult and junior players.
 Be fully informed and able to communicate the full junior pathway.
 Be fully informed and able to communicate with adult players on opportunities for them to play
competitive events.
 Recruit and train Tournament Directors, communicating regularly with them and provide ongoing
support.
 Communicate with the parents of junior players on a regular, timely and as needed basis.
 Monitor and influence the integrity and quality of tournaments and events offered.
 Work closely with Jr. Team Tennis Coordinator to integrate tournament play with JTT.
 Organize and conduct annual tournament director’s workshop.
 Prepare and manage yearly program budgets.
 Serve as staff liaison to Adult Competition and Junior Competition Committees and the
Sanctioning and Scheduling Committee
 Participate with and respond to USTA Southern Section program personnel as needed.
