SUMMARY
Supervises, coordinates and conducts the daily operations of an organic dairy, farm, herd,
employees and facilities utilizing robotic milking technology to ensure success and profitability.
Organizes and maintains all production documents and ensures the highest quality products and
results by performing the following duties.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties
may be assigned.
Management of the Dairy Herd (50 percent of time):
 Ration preparation and feeding using primarily organic feeds
 Raising of replacements
 Milking using traditional and/or robotic milking equipment
 Upkeep of facilities, grounds and equipment
 Organic pasture management
 Organic herd management
 Monitoring, tracking and maintaining all necessary information
 Fill in for sick and vacationing employees as needed
Herd Health and Reproduction (30 percent of time):
 Treat and care for sick animals using organic interventions
 Help with difficult births
 Heat detection
 Breeding
 Monitoring, tracking and maintaining all necessary information
General Office Work and Procurement (20 percent of time):
 Record keeping (herd health, production, reproduction inventories)
 Monthly inventories
 Order supplies, repair parts, feed
 Discuss needs and problems with sales and service representatives
 Personnel evaluations
 Hold regular employees meetings
 Personnel recruitment and training, in consultation with herd owner
General Overview of Duties & Responsibilities








Make decisions pertaining to day-to-day operations, such as when an animal needs to be
treated or bred, and when veterinarians or service personnel are called.
Decide on feeding regime of herd, when hay should be harvested, when and what feed to
order, what repairs and upkeep should be performed.
Solve problems concerning herd health, failure of milking equipment or outside
equipment, nutrition and pasture management.
Maintain the highest quality, sanitation and cleanliness standards, and associated
recordkeeping for all dairy and farm products, and farm related equipment, animals and
facilities.
Any other related duties as identified, requested or needed to ensure the highest standards
are maintained.
Make suggestions for budget; decide when to sell cull cows and bull calves; can sign for
items costing up to $250.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES



Directly supervises team members who are direct reports.
Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the Rogue Creamery’s policies,
mission, goals and applicable laws.
Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training team members; planning,
assigning, and directing work; regularly appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining
team members; addressing complaints and resolving problems while serving Rogue
Creamery’s mission.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE
Associate’s degree (A. A.) or equivalent from two-year college or technical school; two to five
years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
At least one year hands-on experience successfully managing/supervising employees.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required:
 Trained in breeding
 Knowledgeable of disease and injury treatment and calf pulling
 Knowledgeable in dairy nutrition
 Ability to motivate and supervise employees
 Ability to communicate and work with a broad spectrum of individuals
 Knowledge of milking procedures
 Knowledge of effectively maintaining and using Dairy Herd Improvement Records
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals,
technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business
correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond
to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference, and
fundamentals of plane and solid geometry and trigonometry. Ability to apply concepts such as
fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations
where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished
in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
COMPUTER SKILLS
High level of proficiency with personal computers and smart phones. Demonstrated proficiency
using Microsoft Office software, including Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook; production
and database software, and Internet usage

HACCP Certified
CPR/First Aid certification preferred.
