COMING FORWARD FOR COMMUNION TODAY? Please be aware that in our church
the biblical and historic understanding of Holy Communion is held that those who share with
us in this Holy Supper bear witness that they agree with the doctrine of the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod in general and the following two things in particular:
 When consecrated, the bread and wine of the Lord's Supper are the true Body and Blood of
Jesus Christ, as He said when He instituted the Sacrament to be a Holy meal for the remission of
sins.
 Those who come to Holy Communion in repentance, grateful for God’s forgiveness, should
also be committed to offering their personal forgiveness to all others.
Guests communing with us for the first time should see the Pastor before the service. If you are
interested in becoming a communicant member or if you have any questions regarding our
beliefs, please see the Pastor.
COMMUNION CARDS - Each time that we celebrate Holy Communion, we ask that all those
who come to receive Communion would please fill out a sacramental registration card and
hand it to the usher on your way up to the rail. This will help us keep an accurate record of the
communion attendance of our members. Also, we ask you to please read the communion card
as part of your spiritual preparation to worthily receive Christ's Body and Blood. Thank you

About the Liturgy . . . “A New Hymnal (part 4)”
Why are the pronouns referring to God sometimes uppercased and sometimes not?
The practice of uppercasing pronouns that refer to God was observed in
older hymnals like The Lutheran Hymnal but not in more recent hymnals.
When Hymnal Supplement 98 was prepared, the Commission on Worship
made the editorial decision to return to the earlier practice. The reason is
simply to make the text as clear as possible. For example, when a hymn is
being sung, the worshiper does not have the luxury of stopping to figure out
to whom the text is referring. An uppercased pronoun can immediately
identify the referent. This practice has been followed in the services and
hymns of LSB. It has not, however, been followed in the Psalter or the
lectionary volumes because the commission did not want to impose an
exegetical interpretation on such large portions of the Holy Scriptures.

SPAGHETTI DINNER is planned for this Friday, January 26 at 6:00 pm. A
free-will offering will be collected to benefit Redeemer’s Day School. Plan to
attend, and bring along your family and friends. A sign-up sheet is posted
in the main hallway.
The Stewardship Corner:
Many people struggle in their stewardship because they fail to recognize that
their ownership is temporary rather than permanent. Faithful stewards
acknowledge that God is the owner. Stewards are only caretakers and managers
of His property. The Apostle Paul said, “For we brought nothing into the world,
and we can take nothing out of it” (1 Timothy 6:7). The property that you have is
on loan to you from God. “What do you have that you did not receive?”
(1 Corinthians 4:7)
---------------------On average, each month we need $23,403 to meet our obligations…utilities,
supplies, upkeep, mortgage and salaries of our Pastor, organist and secretary.
So far for the month of January, we have received $11,180 in giving. (Includes
$1,183 from the anonymous endowment.)
COMMUNITY MEETING The Riverview School District in conjunction with
the PA office of the Attorney General, Child Predator Unit, is sponsoring a
community event. The purpose is to recognize the urgent need to raise our
communities’ awareness of the possible dangers associated with the Internet. A
program entitled “operation Safe Search” will be held in the 10 th St. School
Auditorium on Wednesday, January 24 at 7:00 pm.

PLANNING AHEAD…..
… Work Night, Friday, February 2 at 6:30 pm. There will be painting and
ceiling tile installation being completed in the new classroom/bathroom areas.
Everyone is welcome to come on out and help.
…Sweetheart Breakfast, February 10, from 9:30 – 11:00 am. The youth group
will sponsor a pancake breakfast to help offset their costs for the youth retreat this
summer. Please plan to attend.
…The Lenten Season begins with Ash Wednesday, February 21. Weekly Vespers
will be at 7:00 pm. Our school will be hosting “Soup & Salad” dinners before the
services (6:00-7:00). If you would like to donate soup or a dessert for any of the
weekly dinners, please see Gail Holzer.
