UPCOMING EVENTS: March 7 – Applebee’s Flapjack fundraiser April 18 – Vera Bradley Tricky Tray MARCH 2015 Greetings: A picky customer went into a small food shop. The customer carefully inspected and hand picked each piece of fruit. The customer proceeded to the checkout counter. He carefully placed each selected orange on the counter and asked the checkout person to individual wrap each orange. The saleswoman wrapped each orange without any hesitation. He then placed a pound of cherries on the counter and asked, “Would you please wrap up each cherry in a separate piece of paper, too." Once again, she did what he asked, although frustrated with the demand. The saleswoman then asked, “Would there be anything else?” The customer pointed over to a barrel and asked what is in that barrel? "Raisins," said the saleswoman, "but they are not for sale!" There's nothing wrong with a customer in a grocery store who wants to individually wrap each piece of fruit. But what about when we do the same thing with our lives? What I am referring to is our tendency to compartmentalize our lives. We wrap up a piece of our life and give it to our family. We wrap up another piece of our life and give it to our employer. We wrap up another piece of our life and leave it laying on the couch in front of the television set. We wrap up another piece of our life and give it to our God! So we wrap up an hour of our life and give it to Him on Sunday morning. There's only one problem with that approach to life. God doesn't just want the hour of our life that we have wrapped up and presented to Him (no matter how beautiful the wrapping paper may be). He wants all the pieces! He wants the part of our lives that we designate for family, and the part we designate for work, and even the part we designate for recreation. Every piece of our life is to be lived with the purpose of bringing God the glory. "Therefore whether you eat or drink, or whatever you do, do all to the glory of God." (I Cor. 10:31) "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and all your soul, and with all your mind." (Matthew 22:37) Lent provides us the perfect opportunity to examine every piece of our life and ask the question, Am I glorifying God with this piece of my life? God doesn’t desire to be a piece of the pie you call life. He desires to be the pie crust that holds all of the pieces of your life. When you stop being satisfied with giving God a piece of yourself and make an effort to give Him every moment of every day, life will take on new meaning for you. SUNDAY SCHOOL 01 - Obedience - Pride Gets in the Way 08 - Obedience - Don't Reject God's Call 15 - Obedience - Defeating the Enemy 22 - The First Communion 29 - Death on a Cross/ The Resurrection PRAYER of the MONTH Lord, Let everything I do this day and in this season of Lent come from you, be inspired by you. I long to be closer to you. Help me to remember that nothing is important in my life unless it glorifies you in some way. It's so easy to get caught up in the day to day of my life and keep saying, "Tomorrow, I will spend more time in prayer," but now my longing meets your love and I want to do it now. Help me to rely on you for help. Lord, remind me that "perfection" isn't the crazy, "successful" way I try to live my life, but a perfection of my most authentic, real self. My "perfection" might be holding my many flaws in my open hands, asking you to help me accept them. Heal me, Lord, and help me to find you in the darkness of my life. Let me reach out in this darkness and feel your hand and love there to guide me. In Jesus’ name. Amen COMMUNION OFFERING March’s communion offering will be given to the New Brunswick Salvation Army.
