IES José Arencibia Gil is located in Telde , the second largest
city of Gran Canaria, between two important historical
headquarters, San Juan , where the local council is and San
Gregorio, the commercial area of our city and about ten
kilometers away from the capital . Our high school, pioneer in its
educational approach, was founded in 1954. The social
background he students who come to this school is that of
medium and higher economic level. It is a quiet place
The school currently offers:
· Obligatory Secondary Education (ESO). It consists of four
academic years, between the ages of
12 and 16 years old. Pupils who successfully complete ESO are
awarded the Certificate in
Obligatory Secondary Education. Then, they can go on to
Baccalaureate or to Vocational
Studies.
· Baccalaureate (Bachillerato). From 16 to 18 years old, the
Baccalaureate is a two-year course which prepares pupils for
Higher Education or University. On finishing this stage, pupils
receive the Baccalaureate
We have evening courses (online ones) for adults who want to
study Bachillerato
Self-Contained Unit: A special education home room for
students with a specific category of disability. Students in selfcontained units spend the majority of their day in the special
education classroom or in settings other than the regular
classroom. Students placed in self-contained units must
nevertheless be given as many opportunities as possible for
interactions with peers without disabilities through other school
activities, including lunch, recess, assemblies and field trips,
extracurricular activities and classes such as art, PE, music, and
library
