WHERE IS OUR HIGH SCHOOL? It’s in Saragossa. It’s in Almozara neighbourhood SARAGOSSA CITY POPULATION AND AREA Population: Saragossa has got 700,000 inhabitants THE RIVER AND THE PARK In Saragossa it’s the River Ebro, the largest river in Spain. The Big Park is the most famous park in Saragossa THE CITY CENTER The Basilica of Our Lady of the Pillar is in Pilar square The Independence Boulevard THE PILAR FESTIVAL It’s on 12th October It’s the most important event. We do the offering of flowers wearing typical dresses. There are a lot of concerts. EXPO SARAGOSSA 2008 International exhibition It was in 2008 It was about Water and Sustainable Development THE ALMOZARA NEIGHBOURHOOD It’s 30 minutes far from the city center. It’s near the Ebro. There is the Aljafería Palace (muslim) FACILITES IN THE ALMOZARA NEIGHBOURHOOD -There are: 3 schools 2 high schools Cultural center OUR HIGH SCHOOL IN SANTO DOMINGO SQUARE IES It Luis Buñuel was founded in 1978 was called “Mixto cinco”, but they changed the name to IES Luis Buñuel in 1985 The old building was the town hall of Zaragoza and a headquarter in Napoleon time There were all over 900 pupils but the high school was loosing pupils, it got to have all over 400 pupils There weren’t vocational training studies WHY DID WE CHANGE THE CENTER? Most pupils lived in “La Almozara” neighborhood The building was old OUR HIGH SCHOOL IN LA ALMOZARA The high school moved to La Almozara in two phases - 1st September 2002 - 2nd September 2005 The actual centre is more luminous than the old one The new centre has modern facilities There are more classrooms School Activities Concert in June In June, all the classes that learn music play in a concert. We preparate it since February or March. We play the songs two days. The first day in the afternoon and the second day in the morning, so parents can watch us. Movie Day One day in February our High School organizes the Movie Day. This day is organized because our high school is called Luis Buñuel, he was a very important movie director and we remember him because of his career. Solidarity Race In this race, all the High School participate. We run about 5 km. Before the race, teachers give us an envelope and we put money into it. The money we get is sent to an ONG, called Save the Children. Cultural Trips ESO The trip lasts a day and its objective is make us cooperate. In first and second ESO, the trips are only in Aragón, in third and fourth ESO, the trips are outside Aragón. They’re always in April. 2º Bachillerato The trip usually lasts a week. The students go when classes are ended. This year they’ll go to London. Cultural Exhibitions Materials about social subjects are shown in the hall six months a year. They talk about: Racism(November) Twinning with Nicaragua(December) Interculturality (January) Soldier children (February) Feminism (March) Weapons under control (April) Sports and Free-time activities Sports Free-time activities 1st term: physical shape, athletics. 2nd term: individual and collective sports and an artistic part. 3rd term: environment activities. They’re suggested by PIEE. Some artistic ones, like funky, hip-hop,…; and some sport activities, like basketball, football(girls and boys), table tennis,… Exchanges – Canada, U.K., France Exeter Two years ago, the high school started preparing a trip for the students in third and fourth ESO to Exeter, England. Around thirty students go in summer to ISCA school and live with a host family. They make a lot of trips including a visit to London. Canadian Exchange It started last year. Three students who got the highest marks spent the first term in Ontario, and now, the Canadian guys are in Zaragoza to spend another term here. Our school appeared on the newspaper. Exchanges – Canada, U.K., France France French department prepare a exchange for the students in second and fourth ESO to Pau. Belgium Exchange In Bachillerato (years 12 & 13), they go for a trip to Paris every other year. Vocational Training students started two years ago en exchange wtih a school in Eeklo. This year they got Erasmus grants to take the students to a European country to get work experience. Students’ farewell 4th ESO: The high school has been doing it for three years. It’s a little party just for the students in the afternoon. Professional course: It’s not a party because they are busy with their work experience. It’s an evaluation of their stay at school. 2º Bachillerato: It’s a big party. It lasts two hours in the cultural centre and then the students go out together. The school has been doing it for around ten years. There’s also a teachers’ farewell when they get retired.
