Behavioral Health Clinical Supervisor
Starting Salary: Salary based upon credentials, plus benefit package and CEU stipend
St. Luke’s Behavioral Health Counselor is a strategic-thought partner and a member of the senior
management team. He/she is a flexible, hands-on manager with excellent communication skills and the
ability to work with and across multi-disciplinary teams. This person will oversee the on-going integration of
behavioral health services into the clinic’s primary care setting, incorporating substance use, abuse, and
treatment within the clinic and in the clinic’s outreach program. He/she will be a key partner in overseeing
behavioral health grant-funded programs. The behavioral health clinical supervisor serves at the behest of
St. Luke’s Executive Director and is an at-will employee.
Major Functions and Responsibilities: In conjunction with St. Luke’s CEO, oversees the behavioral
health functions while also providing patient care in the clinic and on outreach. He/she supervises the
behavioral health care staff and interns, and collaborates with St. Luke’s Medical Director, facilitating the
integration of behavioral health care into the clinic’s primary care practice. The behavioral health clinical
supervisor actively engages with others and assures quality improvement planning is ongoing, updated,
and capable of producing evaluative measures and reports.
Major Activities and End Results:
1. Provide direct patient screening, assessment, and therapy to homeless and indigent adults and
children.
2. Supervise behavioral health staff and interns; assist with human resources issues such as
disciplining, recruiting, hiring, interviewing, and training new staff.
3. Coordinate formal/informal mental health and substance abuse training for staff, providing
programs to address the various behavioral health issues afflicting patients.
4. Develop a crisis response team to handle crises within the clinic as well as on the Mesilla Valley
Community of Hope campus.
5. Help develop comprehensive delivery service systems, in collaboration with SLHCC’s Medical
Director, for primary care patients with behavioral health needs. This means developing evidencebased screening and assessment tools appropriate to St. Luke’s and its patient population, as well
as providing training to all clinical employees.
6. Help develop counseling program targeting needs of seasonal agricultural or migrant workers.
7. Keep abreast of behavioral health trends of high-risk populations such as those relevant to
homeless or the economically disadvantaged people.
8. Comply with quality assurance/quality improvement plans and activities, producing reports for
quality improvement, meaningful use, program planning, and evaluation for St. Luke’s Board and
senior management. Monitor quality of patient care through chart reviews, staff consultation, and
other tools.
9. Coordinate with other clinical staff and management on program planning and evaluation,
developing and implementing St. Luke’s strategic plan.
10. Help coordinate and manage grant programs associated with behavioral health.
Experience, Knowledge and Skills
 Minimum Qualifications: Experience working with under-served populations, providing behavioral
health services to people who are low-income and/or homeless. Bilingual or Spanish-English
preference with clinical supervision experience and program oversight
 Desired Qualifications: Bilingual or Spanish-English proficiency working with multiple evidencebased practices including trauma-informed care and motivational interviewing. Experience
integrating behavioral health within a primary care setting.
Education, Credentials, Licenses
 Minimum Qualifications: LISW, LPCC or higher with current license to practice in New Mexico.
Other: Position will involve occasional state and out-of-state travel for clinic specific training and meetings.
