ITALIAN LADY TREATED FOR COMPLEX HEART CONDITIONS IN
AHMEDABAD
~ First patient from Italy to undergo treatment at Narayana Multispeciality
Hospital ~
Ahmedabad, August, 2014: A 60-year-old Italian lady was recently admitted to Narayana Multispeciality
Hospital Ahmedabad for severe heart disease which required aortic valve replacement (to treat
problems with heart’s aortic valve). On examination in Ahmedabad, it was also recommended that she
undergoes an Open Heart and Bypass Surgery for grafting (to improve blood flow to the heart muscles).
Being an Italian passport holder and staying in Malawi, the local doctor recommended Ms. Durante to
visit Narayana Multispeciality Hospital in Ahmedabad. The patient had options to get medical treatment
in South Africa and other parts countries but she chose to visit Narayana Multispeciality Hospital for
quality treatment. This makes her the first patient from Italy to undergo a complex surgery such as this
in Ahmedabad.
Ms. Durante (the patient), expressed, “I am grateful to the doctors, staff members and the hospital
management who counseled, guided and treated. The team explained my heart’s condition and took us
through the whole process of what I would have to undergo, which gave us the confidence and courage
to travel to Ahmedabad.”
The patient had to undergo Aortic Valve Replacement (AVR) as her aortic valve of the heart was leaking
and it was narrowing obstructing the blood flow. As a result of the non-functionality of the heart’s valve
coupled with other medical conditions, the decision to perform an open heart and bypass surgery was
made by the doctors at Narayana Multispeciality Hospital Ahmedabad. The surgery was led by Dr. Atul
Maslekar, Senior CVTS Surgeon and his team performed this surgery in five hours time. The patient is
doing well and is being discharged today with prescribed medications.
Commenting on the surgery, Neerav Bansal, Facility Director, Narayana Multispeciality Hospital
Ahmedabad, “We are glad that people from Italy are beginning to understand our expertise and
knowledge in the healthcare domain. The team had planned and executed a fine surgery for this Italian
patient who is getting discharged today. This case will be a testimony to the expertise available at the
hospital at par with western standard.”
