MUCHEA VEAL REPORT 9th FEBRUARY, 2015 163 veal came to hand at this week’s veal sale with the quality and condition of most drafts plain and storey. Re stockers took the opportunity to secure purchases with the lighter stock which kept the market strong even with the lack of quality. The better drafts of heifer vealers, suitable for the trade, sold to good quotes up to $465.00. Limited numbers of steers, locally bred, saw good competition and re stockers purchasing up to $515.00 and better types from $460.00. Lighter steer calves made from $250.00 to $320.00. Heifers today saw good values and competition for the quality on offer and medium weights ranged from $160.00 to $295.00. The limited numbers of pastoral heifers were of good breeding but plain store condition and sold to $280.00 and from $170.00. Four very young calves made $30.00 to $95.00. Bulls today ranged from $280.00 to $440.00 which included limited numbers of pastoral drafts. Bull buyers were keen to buy and did go away without required numbers.
