3M Library Systems Introduces New Software for Detection System
---Software makes it simpler for libraries to communicate increased usage of their
facilities
CHICAGO, ILL. – July 9, 2009 – 3M Library Systems today announced a new software
program designed to enable libraries to more easily track patron visits to their libraries
better monitor their inventory and status of their detection system. The 3M Detection
System Model 8900 includes an integrated patron counter to monitor library traffic
patterns. With 3M Stats and Status Software, libraries can access aggregated patron
counting reports and real-time statistics.
“The new Stats and Status Software program is intended to help libraries operate as
efficiently as possible. More importantly, it allow libraries to more easily communicate
the value they are providing to their communities which is especially important in
challenging budgetary times,” said Skip Driessen, business development manager, 3M
Track and Trace Solutions. “This powerful software tool will help make it easier for
libraries to assess, analyze and communicate patron traffic, which along with check-outs,
is a critical statistic that libraries continuously report to justify funding.” In challenging
economic times, more and more patrons are visiting libraries and utilizing the valuable
services they offer, and this software makes it easier for library management to
communicate the additional service they are providing to their communities.
The software is unique in the fact that it can work at a single site or across multiple
locations and possesses several additional features that libraries have requested. This new
software must be used in tandem with the 3M Model 8900 Detection System, which
utilizes the latest RFID technology to provide enhanced detection performance.
The 3M Stats and Status Software for 3M Detection System Model 8900 was released
during the 2009 American Library Association annual conference in Chicago. For more
