Complete the box on the bookmark for each assigned reading section before coming to class; if you do not come to class prepared, I will deduct participation points. Completing these boxes serves two purposes. It prepares you for group discussions that will take place most days after the quiz, and it provides you with practice as an analytical thinker, reader, and writer. A – Facilitator: In the box, your job is to list three good, discussion-worthy questions AND write your prediction for what comes next in this novel. Questions should be thoughtful and interpretive, and discussing them should add to our understanding of the story itself. During the group time, it is up to you to keep the group focused and choose how to spend the discussion time. B – Symbol Guru: Select a symbol that you found important in the chapter(s). Analyze the symbol: what might it represent, and what is the purpose of the symbol? Write this as a brief paragraph, and correctly use at least one quote in your writing. C – Connector: Make a connection between the chapter(s) and the real world, history, your life, or another piece of literature. Connections should be strong, meaningful, relevant, and/or interesting. Write a brief paragraph explaining the connection, and correctly use at least one quote in your writing. D – Psychologist: Select a character of significance within the chapter(s) (though it doesn’t have to be the main character). In a brief paragraph that correctly uses at least one quote, provide an analysis of the character’s thoughts, motivations, and actions in the chapter(s). Please, Doc, avoid the shallow and obvious in your analysis. Lord of the Flies – FOUR ROLES For each assigned reading section, you are responsible for one of the roles listed below.
